Final reminder of deadline for turkey hunt applications

By Don Quilici

Here's a final reminder of information from the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) about the 2005 Nevada spring wild turkey hunts.

A total of 175 tags are available for resident hunters and 13 for nonresidents.

Resident tags include 60 for Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area in Lyon County, 15 for Moapa Valley in Clark County, 15 for Lahontan State Park and 25 for hunt unit 102 in Elko County.

There also are 15 for unit 103 of Elko and White Pine counties, 15 for Lincoln County and 30 for Pershing County.

There are open quotas in several areas of the state.

Since most of the turkeys in these areas are on private land, NDOW is encouraging hunters to obtain permission to hunt from landowners prior to applying for the tags.

Resident tags are $20 and there is a $13 nonrefundable application fee.

Wildlife Administrative Services in Fallon must receive applications by 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 7, to be eligible for the tag drawing.

Applications and regulations are available at all NDOW offices and most sporting goods stores.

Applications can be made online at Internet website www.huntnevada.com.

For information, call NDOW at 688-1500.
