Grant monies are available for Nevada wildlife projects

According to a recent press release by the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW),

Individuals and groups who are interested in conducting projects that will benefit Nevada's wildlife and wildlife habitats can apply for Wildlife Heritage Trust Account grants that are available through the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

Money for the account is derived from the sale of Wildlife Heritage and Partnership in Wildlife big game hunting tags.

These are premium tags that hunters purchase at auctions and through a special drawing that is held in conjunction with the annual big game tag drawing.

Currently the Heritage account's balance is nearly $4 million.

Approximately $530,000 has been expended from the account projects over the years.

Recent projects include NDOW's big and small game trapping and transplant programs, water development (guzzler) construction and range restoration and reseeding.

The Fraternity of the Desert Bighorn has received funding to defray a portion of their expenses in chartering helicopters to inspect and maintain Southern Nevada big game water developments.

Project applications will be accepted through March 1, 2005 for projects that should be conducted between July 1, 2005 and June 30, 2006.
