Carson girls fall to Reno

RENO - There is something about the Reno Huskies that brings out the worst in Carson High's girls basketball.

The Huskies hit a boatload of three-pointers in a lopsided win over Carson earlier this year, and this time scored from all over en route to an 81-37 title-clinching triumph Tuesday night.

Reno is 10-0 in league and 19-4 overall. Carson fell to 6-5 in league play, but will make the playoffs as either the third or fourth seed.

This one was over quickly, as the Huskies scored the game's first 10 points, and held a double-digit lead for the last 25 1/2 minutes of the contest.

Carson hit just 1 for 8 from the floor and turned the ball over six times, leading to nine Reno points and a 19-7 deficit after one quarter.

Unfortunately, the second quarter wasn't much better, Carson was 2 for 10 from the floor and turned the ball over nine more times enabling Reno to build a 40-17 halftime lead. Carson shot 16 percent from the floor in the first half, as Reno's press and half-court pressure was too much to overcome.

Rosella Nunez led Carson with seven points, and Nicole Scott and Sinead McSweeney added six each. McSweeney pulled down five rebounds.

Reno guard Kaylan King led the Huskies with 17 points, and became the fourth player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark when she drained a three-pointer late in the third quarter. Mackenzie Butler added 14 for Reno and Michon Rich added 10.
