Man gets 50 years for girlfriend's death

RENO - A Reno man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for the beating and stomping death of his ex-girlfriend.

Marc Fraide must serve 20 years before he is eligible for parole under the sentence handed down Wednesday by Washoe District Judge Janet Berry.

Fraide, 30, was convicted of second-degree murder for the September 2003 beating death of Karyn Miles.

Authorities said Miles, 39, had stopped at a convenience store in Lemmon Valley when Fraide, who had been out drinking with friends, saw her car and asked to be dropped off.

Fraide later told police Miles said something to him and he snapped, punching her in the face.

Fraide then stomping on her head with his construction boots.

The single mother of three fell into a coma and died 25 days later.

Fraide apologized to the victim's family in court.

"I'm sorry," he said in a choked voice, his eyes filled with tears. "I never meant for this to happen. I'm sorry."
