Joseph 'Big Joe' Montalbano

A memorial Mass for Joseph "Big Joe" Montalbano, 63, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Paul McCollum officiating.

Mr. Montalbano died Jan. 31, 2005, at Washoe Medical Center. He was born May 17, 1941, in Newark, N.J.

He was raised in the San Fernando Valley.

He showed and trained Appaloosa horses and he won many awards.

He moved to Northern California in 1972, and enjoyed fishing, boating, camping.

He was an active 4-H leader in Pollock Pines.

After his retirement, Mr. Montalbano moved to Yerington.

Among his survivors are his wife of 44 years, Jane; children Christine Anne and Joseph Emanuel; granddaughter, Lexi Montalbano; mother, Florence; mother-in-law Anne Welter; sister, Jean; brothers-in-law Tom Gerling and Bill Gross; sister-in-law, Loretta and other family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Family Church High School Youth Group Mexico Trip, 37 N. West St., Yerington, NV 89447.

Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
