River meeting canceled

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Carson River Advisory Committee on Wednesday has been canceled.

The next meeting of the committee will be Feb. 1.

Retired public workers to discuss V&T RR

The Carson City Chapter of Retired Public Employees of Nevada will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive.

Guest speaker is Robert Stanley Hadfield, coordinator of the V&T Railroad.

All retired public employees are welcome to attend.

Carson City Democrats will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at 709 E. Robinson St.

Political columnist to speak to Footprint Association

The Carson Valley International Footprint Association will hold their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 19 at Casino Fandango.

The guest speaker for the month is Guy W. Farmer, political columnist for the Nevada Appeal.

Junior Snow Ranger program available

Children ages 6 through 12 who love winter fun and the great outdoors are invited to become a Washoe County Junior Snow Ranger.

Junior Snow Rangers is a free winter program offered by the Washoe County Department of Regional Parks and Open Space.

Self-guided hikes and activities are designed to help children learn about the natural wonders around them and how animals cope with winter weather.

To get started, pick up a Junior Snow Ranger Booklet from rangers at Bartley Ranch, Bowers Mansion, Davis Creek or Galena Creek Regional Parks. To have a booklet mailed to you, call Ranger Marie Fong at 828-6612.

New Year's Eve show at Piper's cancelled

The dinner and dance that was slated for Piper's Opera House on New Year's Eve has been cancelled.

A representative of Comstock Radio Theatre, the organizer of the event, said the event was canceled due to time constraints.
