BRAD HORN/Nevada Appeal Firefighters battle a fire at 7410 Bryan Canyon Road in Washoe Valley on Friday evening. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A Washoe Valley couple returned home Friday night to discover their house engulfed in a massive blaze that required four fire departments to put it out.

Members of the Reno Fire Department, Washoe Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Pleasant Valley Fire Department and the Nevada Division of Forestry responded to the blaze at 7410 Bryan Canyon Road at 6:35 p.m. Friday.

"When we got the call it was totally engulfed," said Vince Thomas, battalion chief with the Nevada Department of Forestry. "It looks like the house will be a total loss."

The exact cause of the fire was still under investigation and fire investigators were expected to remain at the home for most of the night, said Thomas.

The home was for sale and a real estate flier on the property listed the selling price at $1.77 million. The owners' names were not available at the scene.

Crews attacked the fire from all four sides of the home with an additional team working to prevent the spread of the fire to surrounding brush.

"We had hoses around the exterior of the home on all four sides and one team on exposures."

Because of the remote location of the fire, crews stretched fire hoses more than an eighth of a mile to get water to supplement the water on the trucks.
