New commissioners named for Carson City

Gregory C. Davis will begin his four-year term in January as the newest member of the Parks and Recreation Commission.

"I'm very happy," Davis said Friday. "It's very good to be able to give back to the community."

Davis, a construction supervisor for Southwest Gas Corp., has a bachelor of science degree from University of Nevada, Reno in renewable natural resources.

He has served as a coach of many youth sports teams, an American Youth Soccer Organization commissioner and is now president of the Capital Soccer Club.

He also spent five years on the Carson City Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife.

Also listed on his commission application was a stint as an officer of Ducks Unlimited and membership in the Ormsby Sportsmen's Association.

Two other commissioners will stay on to serve for another four years each. Thomas Keeton, who has been chairman for two years, and Donna Curtis said they want to complete their work on various projects that have taken years to plan.

Cited by one or both members as important are the city's master planning process, a new recreation center and obtaining a face lift for the Bob Boldrick Theater.

Davis will replace Donna Kuester DePauw, who has been the group's vice-chairwoman and opted out of serving another term.

There were five applicants, including current members Keeton and Curtis, vying for the three seats. The appointees will each serve four years.

Other city commission appointments made by the Board of Supervisors on Thursday included:

n Four more years on the Historic Resources Commission for Mark Lopiccolo.

n Two more years on the Regional Transportation Committee for Michael Zola and Charles DeJardins.

n Three more years for Tom Ferrer on the Carson River Advisory Committee.
