Birgit Baker has announced her retirement as director of the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Gov. Kenny Guinn named deputy director Terry Johnson to fill the post.

"Birgit's dedicated service, her professional and management skills, will be sorely missed," said Guinn.

She worked for the state 26 years including in welfare, taxation and the Legislative Counsel Bureau before becoming head of DETR.

Johnson has been deputy director of the department since August 2004. Before that, he was Nevada labor commissioner.

Guinn said the state is fortunate to have someone with Johnson's experience and talent to take over the position.

Las Vegas lawyer reprimanded

Las Vegas lawyer William Seegmiller has been publicly reprimanded by the State Bar Association and the Nevada Supreme Court.

The investigation concluded that Seegmiller failed to exercise control over his firm's initial contacts with potential clients and delegated to non-lawyers in the firm tasks of initiating the lawyer-client relationship and maintaining communications with the client.

The court also noted Seegmiller was reprimanded earlier this year as reciprocal discipline for sanctions imposed by the California Bar Association.
