• The Dayton firehouse was built in 1875. The jail was moved to this building in 1909 from the courthouse, which is now the site of the community center. The courthouse burned in 1908.

• The Dayton firehouse and jail are open only during special events and for scheduled tours.

• It has more than 600 visitors annually and survives by grants and donations.

Lo from my loved ones I have been taken

That's why their hearts and mane has been forsaken

In the month of July in the year of 1915

I was arrested in Elko County and sent to the reform school.

I was there two week and ran away and roamed over

The country and last month Mar 15 I arrived in Goldfield

Where my dear mother and rest of family were.

But on the 13 day of March I was caught and am now

On my way back to Elko and was locked up here.
