Donald "Wayne" Whitehead

A celebration of life for Donald "Wayne" Whitehead, 75, a lifelong Fallon resident, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 450 North Taylor St. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

A gathering for family and friends will be in the cultural hall at the church following burial.

Mr. Whitehead died Aug. 5, 2005, at the family ranch.

He was born Aug. 1, 1930, to J. Warren and Lois M. Vaughn Whitehead.

He was educated in Fallon and was a graduate of the high school class of 1948.

He married Alma Lucia Matteucci on Sept. 24, 1950.

Mr. Whitehead worked for the state of Nevada for 36 years, working his way up to highway design engineer in the Design and Drafting Department.

He was supportive of his daughters in JR Riders, 4-H and high school rodeo.

He was an active member of the Latter-day Saints Church. He enjoyed his family, his dogs, genealogy and Nevada, and was an avid horseman.

He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law Remo Matteucci and Matt Baker and sister/cousin Bettie Ann Fowler.

Among his survivors are his wife of 55 years; daughter Waynette Van Fleet and daughter and son-in-law Donna and Bill Card, all of Fallon; grandchildren Shylea Wingard, Sharmen Scafani and Boyd Van Fleet, all of Montana, and Jared Card, Alisa Powers, Jason, Shayla, Jacob, Conner, Angela and William Card, all of Fallon, and Alayna and Shonna Card, both of Scottsdale, Ariz.; six great-grandchildren; stepfather, Frank Erb; uncle, Leon Vaughn; sister-in-law Phyllis Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at the Churchill County Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Churchill County Museum, 1050 S. Main St., Fallon, NV 89406; or to the Churchill County Public Library, 533 S. Maine St., Fallon, NV 89406.

The Gardens Funeral Home in Fallon is in charge of arrangements.
