Street closes for high school reunion

North Curry Street from Spear and Telegraph streets will be closed from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday for the Carson High School Class of 1995 reunion.

Alternate routes of travel are Carson and Division streets.

'65 Class reunion held at golf course

The Carson High School Class of 1965 is having their 40th class reunion Friday and Saturday. The class is inviting the classes of 1962-1967 to join them at their no-host cocktail party from 6-10 p.m. Friday at Eagle Valley Golf Course, 3999 Centennial Park Drive.

Month full of events for singles club

The Nevada Singles Social Club has the following events scheduled for August:

• Hawaiian Luau and entertainment on Third Street on Friday, followed by an Hawaiian Potluck Luau and pool party Sunday.

• Rock n' Roll on Third Street with "Captain Deva" on Aug. 19 and "Bad Intent" performs Aug. 26.

• Overnight Wine and Cheese Campout at Grovers Hot Springs on Aug. 27-28.

Extend garden growing time with tips from seminar

Greenhouse Garden Center is offering a free seminar, Planting a Fall Vegetable Garden at 9 a.m. Saturday. Learn tips and how-tos from owner David Ruf.

Your garden is probably at its peak, but if you'd like to extend your harvest until winter sets in, right now is the time to plant for a fall harvest. Many of the plants that bolt or falter once summer's heat gets here in June can be successfully grown as a fall crop in our area. Broccoli, cabbages, greens, peas, carrots, and radishes, and fall color pansies and mums, should all be planted now.

Celebrate railroads on the Comstock

A celebration of the V&T Railroad at the "Down on the Rails Festival," will be held Saturday in Virginia City.

You will see the plans and the preparations for the completion of the V&T line to Carson City, pay homage to one of Virginia City's greatest tourist attractions and enjoy train rides, gun fights, music by the Comstock Cowboys and food and beverages.

All the action is at the F street Train Depot starting 11 a.m. and goes until 9 p.m. Most of the activities are free.

Seminar teaches how to pay for college

Edward Jones investment representative William Planeta of Carson City will host a free one-hour satellite broadcast titled "Paying for College" at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at 2176 Hwy. 50E, Plaza 50.

The broadcast discusses the ins and outs of saving for college and applying for financial aid. Whether college is years away or just around the corner, this program will help you understand the different types of aid and savings plans available. Discussions include

• The benefits and suitability of a 529 plan.

• The different types of financial aid available.

• Strategies to combine public and private financing.
