Remember Carson's water restrictions

Carson City gardeners starting up their sprinkler systems are reminded that water restrictions are in effect for Carson City from June 1 to Oct. 1.

Those with odd-numbered addresses can water their lawns before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. People with even-numbered addresses will be allotted Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Outside watering is prohibited on Mondays.

Gardnerville

Vendors sought for next month's Heritage Run event

Vendors and crafters are wanted for the Heritage Run Benefit to take place May 21-22 at the Heritage Park in Gardnerville. Proceeds of the weekend event will benefit Northern Nevada Affiliates of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The event weekend will consist of a poker run, blood drives, raffles, barbecue, arts and crafts booths, family games, music by Crazy Texas Gypsies, Déja Blues, Trey Stone, Wicker Box and a 2005 Fatboy Harley raffle.

Raffle tickets cost $10. A one-day pass can be purchased for $15, and a two-day pass for $20. That includes entry, one meal ticket and 10 raffle tickets.

Poker run entries cost $25 per vehicle and include a free T-shirt, a pen, meal ticket and 10 raffle tickets.

Last year, the Heritage Run raised $3,000 for various local charities.

History of Comstock women topic of class

"Special Problems: History of the Comstock - Women on the Comstock" will be taught from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. July 16 at UNR's, Redfield Campus, 18600 Wedge Parkway, Reno; and from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. July 30 in Virginia City.

The Comstock Lode and Virginia City area figure prominently not only in the history of Nevada, but also in the history of the western United States and the history of the mining industry generally.

This class will provide a brief overview of Comstock history, and then move to the subject of how Comstock history provides insights into the role of women in the creation of western U.S. communities. Internet and e-mail access are required. Students provide their own transportation to Virginia City.

Fee: $98, one undergraduate credit; or $130.50, one graduate credit.
