Ensign talks on business at NNDA breakfast

The public is invited to an Northern Nevada Development Agency-sponsored breakfast May 5 to hear U.S. Sen. John Ensign discuss what Congress has been working on to assist business and industry, i.e., American jobs leaving for off-shore locations; taxes being discussed and negotiated and how they will affect business and industry; and his view of the world stage and how these issues will affect his constituents and voters. There will be a question-and-answer period after his presentation.

Cost is $25 per person with reservations or $30 at the door or for members, $18 for with reservations or $30 at the door. Make reservation(s) by calling the NNDA office at 883-4413 or e-mail cher@nnda.org. Reservations must be made no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Library offers chance to learn computer skills

Carson City Library Volunteer Michael Slattery, aka The Computer Tutor, provides free one-hour computer training sessions, between noon and 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. One-on-one sessions cover the Web or Microsoft Word, per the student's request. Signups are required. Call 887-2244 for more information.

Reference librarian Susan Antipa also offers an introduction on using a Web browser, "A Primer on Searching the World Wide Web," the first Tuesday of each month, at 7 p.m., in the Library auditorium. The class is recommended for novice Web users; e-mail and chat rooms are not covered.

Children's shot clinics set for Saturday in Carson

Vaccination clinics for children will be Saturday in conjunction with Nevada Children's Immunization Week. Shots offered will include hepatitis A and B, chickenpox and all other required childhood immunizations. All shots are offered free to ensure that all children can get them.

The clinics are for children of all ages. The clinic in Carson City is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Community Center, 851 E. William St., phone 885-1728. In Fernley, the clinic is at the Community Health Nurse Office, 555 E. Main St., 10 a.m.-3 p.m., phone (775) 573-3363.

Art classes for adults scheduled at museum

Adult art classes for the absolute beginner will be taught Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8:15 p.m. May 3-12 at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson St. Cost is $85, plus cost of supplies.

Get tips on container gardening, tree selection

Want to add a splash of color to your patio or landscape? Try your hand at container gardening. Get free tips from Wendy Hanson, Master Gardener coordinator, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, 10-11:30 a.m., May 5 at the Carson City Senior Center. The presentation is sponsored by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and the Carson City Senior Center Garden Club.

Are you thinking of adding more trees to your landscape? Get some free tips from Wendy Hanson, Master Gardener Coordinator, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, noon-1 p.m., May 14 at the Cscape Garden at Mills Park in Carson City. Hanson will talk about how to select trees, how to choose the right spots for them, and how to plant them.
