Senior citizens, as well as some not-so-senior residents, took advantage of the seventh annual Spring Fling celebration Monday at the Carson Nugget.

Vendors provided a variety of information in pamphlets and displays. Topics ranged from assisted living, to volunteer work, to pet care and activities at local senior centers.

"We haven't had any specific questions," said Dr. Mike Chumrau of Sierra Veterinary Hospital in Carson City. "But someone did ask us about pet food for seniors.

"By the end of the month, they are out of money and can't afford food for their pets."

Carson City resident Ann Beil attended the celebration for the first time.

"I wanted to see what it was all about," Beil said.

"I found out some very good information for my neighbor from Nevada Legal Services. And I enjoy visiting with the people from the Dayton Senior Center. They are just wonderful."

Lyon County Human Services as well as Douglas County and Carson City senior centers were represented.

Docents from the Nevada State Museum dressed in period garb were on hand, as were representatives from Carson-Tahoe Hospital in several venues, Costco, Nevada Legacy Corps, Eagle Valley Care Center, AARP, RSVP and more than 40 others.

The Carson Nugget made available coffee and donuts to visitors, who casually wandered the room gathering information and waited for drawings to win gifts offered by many of the vendors.
