Carson Midgets shut out South Tahoe

The Carson Midget Pop Warner football team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 37-0 victory over South Tahoe last Friday night at Governors field.


The tone for the game was set in the first series. Defensive tackle Tyler Brown forced and recovered a fumble on the second play of the game giving the ball to the offense. Robbie Bozin then scored on the first offensive play with a 30-yard touchdown run.


The defense posted its second shutout in a row and only allowed 15 total yards for the game.


"I am encouraged by their effort and buy in to our system," said head coach Mark Rutledge. "it seemed like on every tackle we had seven or eight helmets to the ball."


The effort was led by Ryan Cruse, Owen Craugh, Matt McDaniel, Casey Hill, Tyler Smith, Brown, Daniel Draper, Jeff Butler, Nate Reno, Mason Bondi, Matt Parmenter,S teve Carranza, Ian Brower, Spud Jacobson, Pat Riggs, Matt Rutledge and Robbie Bozin. Riggs and Jacobson each picked off a pass from the Vikings and Brown and Jacobson each recovered a fumble.


On offense the Senators pounded out 256 yards on the ground and scored five touchdowns. The effort was led by Anthony Pisani, Smith, Chris Bradley, Ryan Hogan, Justin Gragg, Manual Toledo, Cody Barr, Ben McDonald, Brian Benson, Jeremy Zich, Daniel Draper, Butler, Reno, Tanner Wood, Blake Davidson, Bondi, Eric McDaniel, Riggs, Bozin and Matt Rutledge.


Bozin led the way on the ground with 109 yards rushing with Rutledge, Butler, Reno, Bondi and Draper also contributing to the ground attack. Scoring touchdowns on the ground for the Midgets were Bozin with two and Butler and Reno with one each. Quarterback Riggs completed passes to Rutledge and Davidson with one going for a touchdown to Davidson.


The Midgets continue play this Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at Governo's Field with a game against Truckee.
