Galena soccer rolls against Fallon

Fallon's home opener against Galena Tuesday afternoon is a game the Lady 'Wave soccer team would gladly like to forget about.

Powered behind good ball control and offensive dominance, Galena easily handled Fallon 7-0 in High Desert League play. Galena improves to 3-0 in league while Fallon drops to 1-3. Galena plays Saturday at home against Elko and Fallon also stays home to play Reed.

"The kids played very well," said Galena head coach Ron Jones. "We played very good against a very athletic Fallon squad."

The Lady Grizzlies wasted no time to score as Jill Atskinson kicked in the game's first goal three minutes into the first half. Six minutes later, Eylse Iverson found Abbie Walker open for Galena's second goal of the game.

Libby Walker frustrated Fallon's defense as she nailed her first of three goals in the 18th minute to give her team an early 3-0 advantage. Libby Walker closed out the half with an assisted goal from Jessica Dougtery giving Galena a 4-0 halftime lead.

Just barely a minute into the second half, Galena broke through the defense when Abbie Walker connected for her second score of the game. Alia Pinvcello scored the game's sixth goal while Libby Walker closed out the game with the hat trick with 24 minutes remaining.

"She (Libby) is an exceptional player with a great future ahead of her," Jones said of his freshman star who also had a hat trick in their last game.

According to Fallon coach Lance Lattin, the Lady 'Wave struggled in getting off shots and had problems in the midfield.

"We're not aggressive enough. We're too hesitant," Lattin said. "We have good players. We just haven't gotten it together."
