Are you ready to rock?

Like a Long Island iced tea, the World Classic Rockers mix one potent ingredient after another to create a full-on electric cocktail of rock 'n' roll royalty. But this is a healing tonic.

With former members of The Eagles, Journey, Steppenwolf, Toto, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Whitesnake and a special guest appearance by a former member of Santana, the all-star lineup is ready to rock Reno's Golden Phoenix Hotel and Casino at 7 p.m. Friday to benefit Carson Advocates for Cancer Care.

The nonprofit CACC serves cancer patients from all over Northern Nevada, "giving financial assistance to newly diagnosed patients to help with the cost of treatment, prescriptions and related care," says Jon Coats, executive director.

"We help with medical treatment - even gasoline vouchers so the patients can make trips back and forth to see their doctors. We also help patients meet their monthly bills."

Coats said the Carson Advocates served 171 patients in 2003 and spending more than $192,000.

"We're assisting 87 patients for the month of November," he said.

The World Classic Rockers will be playing a 100-minute set that will include hits like "Born to Be Wild," "Hotel California," "Sweet Home Alabama," "Free Bird" and "Already Gone."

Formed when Nick St. Nicholas of Steppenwolf decided to build a classic rock powerhouse that combined the talent behind a mix of legendary bands into one unit, the World Classic Rockers combine stage performance with to create what Nicholas calls "the ultimate classic rock all-star band."

Band members include Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer, Randy Meisner, a founding member of super-group The Eagles.

"I know the show is going to be awesome," said Coats, having seen the World Classic Rockers perform before. "Crowd participation is just great, and the show brings back a lot of good memories. And as always, we'd like to thank the local community for their continued support."
