Volunteers needed today to plant Ash Canyon Creek

The Nevada Division of Wildlife (NDOW) is requesting the assistance of volunteers to help with its annual planting of trout in Ash Canyon Creek.

The fish planting will consist of 300 Eastern brook trout, which will be 9-10 inches in length.

The trout were raised at the NDOW Gallagher Fish Hatchery, located near Ely.

Anyone interested in helping is requested to meet in the parking lot near McDonald's at the old K-Mart Shopping Center at 5:30 p.m., this afternoon.

Ash Canyon Creek is located west of Carson City, and it is planted once a year with either rainbow or brook trout.

The entire trout planting process today should only take about two hours.

Volunteers are requested to wear work clothing and sturdy shoes or boots.

They will need to be prepared to carry a heavy metal can full of water and fish for about 400 yards down a steep ridge.

For information, call Pat Solberger of NDOW at 687-4393.
