Lunch patrons of the Carson City Senior Citizens Center and homebound seniors who receive Meals on Wheels will not go without a meal while the center closes June 21-25 for final expansion construction.

For those who visit the dining room, a sign-up list is available in the center's dining room for them to receive a Lean Cuisine frozen meal, milk, dessert and fruit for each of the five days. The center can accommodate up to 156 seniors for meals each of the five days.

All homebound seniors will receive frozen meals for the same period, plus the weekend before and after the closure.

"If we don't serve meals, we don't get funds from Division of Aging Services," said Janice McIntosh, director of the center at 911 Beverly Drive.

The closure is for replacement and movement of the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system. The roof will also be reshingled and new flooring will be put down.

"The homebound will receive nine meals, fully cooked but frozen, for the days we will be closed," McIntosh said. "For those who live in motels and hotels and do not have a way to heat them, we will heat them at the center, then deliver the meal in one of our Meals on Wheels trucks."

McIntosh said staff will be working at the center during the closure but will be unable to answer phone lines. Those with urgent calls are asked to leave a message.

"We will try to return those calls as soon as we can, but we will be moving furniture and getting things set up throughout the building."

McIntosh said seniors who are signed up for the Lean Cuisine frozen meals should pick them up June 18 between noon and 1 p.m. They can pay for their meals at that time. Suggested donation is $2 per meal.

"The seniors are very good about donating for their meals," McIntosh said. "We hope they continue to do so. And the Lean Cuisine meals are delicious. We've served them before."
