Douglas boys soccer beats Wooster

DOUGLAS 2, WOOSTER 0


The Douglas boys soccer team (7-3-1, 4-1) scored twice in the first 15 minutes of the second half to beat Wooster.


Two minutes into the second half, Chase Cohee crossed a pass to Chris Honer, who scored on a header. Five minutes later, Chase Zumpft preserved the lead by making a save on a penalty kick.


Iani Dunbar then crossed a pass to Colton Mellows, who scored on a header. Douglas coach Phil Sheridan said his team controlled the ball for about 90 percent of the game.


"We dominated the entire game as far as possession," he said. "We just had a had time finishing."


Zumpft made two saves in posting his fifth shutout. Defender Jeff Spencer played well as did Justin Grimm, who moved up from junior varsity to fill in at sweeper.


DAYTON BOYS 4, BATTLE MOUNTAIN 2


Jesse Gutierrez had two goals and an assist, Frank Sasso had a goal and an assist, Jose Garcia scored once and Moses Roman added an assist for the Dayton boys soccer team (3-2-1).


CARSON JVS 8, RENO 0


Sam Rojas had two goals and an assist for the Carson junior varsity boys soccer team (9-0-1). Enrique Mendoza and Evan Thayer each added a goal and an assist, Jake Newman scored twice, Thomas Luquin and Brian Dwyer each scored a goal and Mats Boehnke had an assist.


Because of Carson's outstanding defense, goalie Christian Volker went virtually untested in posting the shutout as he made two saves. One was a spectacular save on a penalty kick.


DOUGLAS JVS 8, WOOSTER 0


Jared Price scored four goals, Mike Gransbery scored three goals and Pat Hannah added a goal for the Douglas junior varsity boys soccer team (5-2-1, 4-1). Brendan Carlson had two assists and Chris Aguilar, Derik Cantley and Kenny Jones all added an assist. Jones and Aguilar combined on goal to make one save to post the shutout and Nick Cohee played well at midfield.
