Carson girls soccer defeats Reno

The Carson High girls soccer team picked up its biggest win of the season in a 1-0 victory at Reno on Saturday.

Katie Kotter scored the game's only goal midway through the second half for Carson (4-1 in the Sierra League). Kotter drew a foul in the goal box. Kotter then took the penalty kick that was saved by the goalie, but Kotter was able to score off the rebound.

Along with Kotter, Casey Kano, Laura Hale and Cassie Bowman pressured Reno throughout the game. Carson had two shots bounce of the crossbar and another shot bounce off the post.

"We kind of had the run of play," Carson assistant coach Jason Koop said. "We had many excellent opportunities."

Defenders Katie Davis, Sam Valerius and Kathryn Rogers also had an outstanding game. "Our back three played very well," Koop said.

Goalie Allie Otto wasn't seriously threatened in posting the shutout.

"She really wasn't tested, nothing that was too threatening," Koop said.

DOUGLAS 9, WOOSTER 0

The Douglas girls soccer team got closer to its goal of having all of its players scoring once during the season as the Tigers' four defenders scored their first goal of the season against Wooster. Douglas won its sixth straight and improved to 5-0 in the Sierra League, setting up a showdown with Carson at 7 p.m. Tuesday at CHS.

Carson and South Tahoe are one game behind the Tigers and a Senator win would likely force a three-way tie for first.

"We're looking forward to our rival game with Carson," Douglas coach Fred Schmidt said. "They're always tough.

"We'll find out how much we've improved. We expect Carson to give us a real challenge. Our girls will be significantly fired up to play Carson."

Hannah Sullivan had two goals and three assists, McKenzie Porter scored twice and Christina Bradshaw scored once against Wooster. Defenders Jenny Jaggard, Krysten Bartsche, Kristy Nalder and Jessica Maule all scored their first goal.

Andrea Bryant, Allison Chapman and Courtney Lenhart went unchallenged at goal in posting the shutout as Wooster didn't have a shot on goal.

BATTLE MOUNTAIN 3, DAYTON 2

Raquel Davidson and Ashley Winter scored for the Dayton girls soccer team in its loss to Battle Mountain. Dayton also lost to Spring Creek 3-0 on Friday.

CARSON JVS 5, RENO 0

Casey Kerfeld and Shannon Eng each scored twice and Sophia Raphael also scored as the Carson junior varsity girls soccer team improved to 7-1.

Jessica Goddard had two assists and defenders Laura O'Neil, Krista Wisbar and Anna McQuarrie all played well. Goalie Brittany DeRosa posted her seventh shutout.
