The young Carson High girls golf team struggled to an 11th place finish on a tough Wild Creek course in Sparks during a Northern 4A tournament on Tuesday.
For the second straight week, Galena placed first behind the play of defending state champion Lux Gill, who was again the low score medalist. Gill fired a 9-over par 81.
Carson coach Terry Gingell said his team struggled with the course's narrow fairways.
"It was a tough day at the links," he said. "Actually the course is very tough, so we struggled. But it was a good learning experience."
Carson's top two players, Gabby Gallegos and Liz Rankl each fired 107.
"They played OK," Gingell said. "They didn't do as well as they would have liked. They hit the ball well."
Kelsey Green also shot 117 for Carson. Rounding out the Senators' lineup was Samantha Wang, Melanie Gingell and Laura Noad. It was the first 18-hole tournament for Gingell and Noad.
"I think it was a good experience for them," Gingell said.
Carson will host the next tournament next Thursday at Eagle Valley Golf's East Course. "I think we'll do a lot better," Gingell said.
