Business expo on Thursday

More than 60 businesses have signed up for the Northern Nevada Development Authority's 2003 Business Expo on Thursday.

Free to the public, the expo is scheduled for 3-8 p.m. at the Nevada Appeal, 580 Mallory Way in Carson City.

Red's Old 395 Grill will provide the food, including hoagie sandwiches, wings, veggie trays, chips and salsa.

"The expo gives businesses the opportunity to showcase what they do," said Al Lim, director of operations at Red's. "We can show the public and other businesses what we have to offer."

All Northern Nevada companies are invited to participate and the event has drawn a wide variety of businesses, from Waddell & Reed Inc. financial services to Funjumpers, a Carson City company specializing in bounce houses and slides.

"We'll be there, extending membership to new businesses in the area," said Roxie Paine of the Dayton Chamber of Commerce. "We'll also be letting people know who we are and what we do. I'm looking forward to it."

Judy Bishop, business development director for the Development Authority, said they were hoping for about 50 exhibitors, but as of Tuesday already had 63.

"A couple of businesses have taken two booths," she noted.

The expo is sponsored by a number of businesses including Wells Fargo Bank, U.S. Bank, JLH Inc. mailing and fulfillment, Orion Digital and the Nevada Appeal.
