Carson Pop Warner football teams win

The Carson Junior Pee Wee Blue youth football team defeated the Reno Jaguars 37-6 with an impressive performances turned in on both sides of the ball.


The Senators scored six times with three coming in the first quarter while the defense shut down the Jaguars.


Big plays were the theme of the night for the Senators offense.


The offense scored on long runs of 48 and 52 yards by Ricky McDonald and three runs of more than 40 yards by Dylan Sawyers.


Colton Banta added the last score with a 20-yard run. Cody Metcalf in his first game at running back scored an extra point. Offensive linemen John Borges, Nick Garcia, Austin Buyak, Nolan Truesdell, Keegan Aiazzi, Shane Ahrens, Devin Harrill and Jimmy Wildenradt were impressive all night opening huge holes. Receivers Donnie Kellie, Zach White, Clint Page, Sam Hutchinson, and Zach Raat made several down field blocks that allowed the runners to break free.


The Senator defense was equally impressive in holding the Jaguars to one score. Michael Lowes and Sawyers made touchdown saving tackles. The defensive line of Casey Foster, Austin Brown, Jeremy Walkama, Javier Torres, Kevin Sperske, Willie McDonald, Cody Hammond and Lue Vang were constantly in the Jaguars backfield.


Excellent containment provided by Gabe Stone, Tanner Laird, Rod Calhoun and Shea Bondi allowed the linebackers Austin Pacheco and Pat Craugh to roam the field making tackles.


The Senators face the Sparks Raider at 8 p.m. Friday at Don Mello Sports Complex.


JUNIOR MIDGETS 29, SOUTH TAHOE 6


The Carson City junior midget football team played strong on both sides of the ball last Saturday in South Tahoe coming away with a 29-6 victory.


Offensively the Senators rolled up close to 400 yards rushing against the Vikings. Matt Rutledge ran the ball 14 times for 185 yards and scored one touchdown.


Tommy Preston rushed for 110 yards and scored 2 touchdowns -- both scores coming on long breakaway runs. Mason Bondi pounded out 60 yards rushing and quarterback Pat Riggs added 35 yards on the ground. The offensive line blocking of Ryan Cruse, Ian Brower, Chris Bradley, Logan Kuhlman, Brandon Kaylor, Ben McDonald, Anthony Pisani, Cody Barr, Rusty Rogers, Dechane Woods, Austin Swafford and reciever Spud Jacobson was steady all day.


Pat Riggs completed passes to Todd Banko, Ryan Cruse and Rutledge.


Defensivly the Junior Midgets made many key plays. Chad Plattsmier and Mitch Hammond intercepted Viking passes with Hammond returning his interception 40 yards for a touchdown. Tyson Pontes and Steven Myers recovered fumbles for the Senators. Sack leaders for the game were Nate Reno and Blake Davidson with two and Steve Carranza with one.


Also contributing to the strong defensive effort were Tucker Ford, Sam Osheroff, James Simmons, Drew Heller, Ben Berg, Nate Peternell, Casey Hill and Matt Robinson. Defensive tackle turned place kicker Anthony Olivas kicked two extra points.


The Junior Midgets return to action at 6 p.m. Friday at Douglas.


MITEY MITES 38, WOLF PACK 25


Hunter Hand scored three touchdowns on runs of 20, 12 and 30 yards to help the Mitey Mites to a win over the Reno Wolf Pack. D.J. Parker scored on runs of 50 and 20 yards and Corwin McIntosh scored on a 55-yard run.


The Mitey Mites rolled behind the outstanding effort of offensive linemen Brandon Davidson, Chazz Nystrom, Jerry Gifford, Zachery Kind, Anthony Burchett and Matthew Premo.


Sixteen Mitey Mite defensive players all had at least one tackle or an assist. Zachery Puzey and Kyle Sharp helped lead the defense.
