Obituary: James Debrick

A memorial service for James F. Debrick, a Carson City resident for the past 25 years, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Mr. Debrick died June 8, 2003, at home of heart failure. He was born March 12, 1917, in Michigan City, Ind., to John and Margaret Jantzon Debrick.

He married Verna Cremetti on Feb. 15, 1944. His family moved to Oregon and eventually settled in Lodi, Calif.

Mr. Debrick joined the U.S. Army in 1945 during World War II and served in Alaska as yardmaster of his base railroad.

He worked on the Southern Pacific Railroad as a brakeman and conductor for 37 years, retiring in 1978. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Among his survivors are his wife of 59 years, Verna of Carson City; daughter Peggy Nikiforuk of Santa Rosa, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law Wanda and John Hicks of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; grandchildren Keegan and Giselle Hicks and Kira and Katrina Nikiforuk; and sisters Marie Seibel, Veola Hunting and Margaret Loumena, all of California.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospice in Carson City or to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
