Visiting artists, annual scholarship show

The Carson Valley Art Association will host its annual scholarship benefit art show, Nov. 8-10.

Show times are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the CVIC Hall at Esmeralda and Fourth streets in Minden across from Minden Park.

An artists' reception will kick things off from 68 p.m. Friday place Friday. Members and non-members are invited to exhibit their work. This will be a judged show with cash awards. The judge for this year's show will be David Foster, chairman of the Lake Tahoe Community College Art Department.

Art entries will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. All work must be original and for sale.

Acceptable media include oil, acrylic, pastel/colored pencil, graphics, sculpture, photography, mixed media and collage.

Entries are open to living artists of Nevada and adjoining California counties of Mono, Alpine, El Dorado, Nevada, Plumas and Sierra. Entry forms are available at most fine arts galleries and art supply stores in Carson City, Carson Valley, South Lake Tahoe, Yerington, Fallon/Fernley, Western Nevada Community College Art Departments and Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe.

The art association will charge a 15 percent commission on each sale with proceeds going to the scholarship fund.

The sole purpose of this event is to raise money for scholarships for deserving Douglas High School art students who are planning to continue their art education. In the past, art association has been able to provide two $500 scholarships.

Artists are encouraged to enter this yearly event.
