Manogue defeats Dayton

The Dayton boys basketball team had nothing to be ashamed about after losing 71-60 to two-time NIAA/U.S. Bank 3A State champion Manogue at home on Friday.


Manogue led 39-26 at halftime and extending its lead to 56-35 after three quarters before Dayton (11-5, 3-3) outscored Manogue 25-15 in the fourth period. Manogue improved to 6-0 in league play.


"I'm very proud of our team's effort," Dayton coach Rob Streeter said.


Matt Bowman scored 13 points and Nick McQueen added 12 points for the Dust Devils. Chris Sawyer scored six points and also had an outstanding defensive effort for Dayton.


The Dust Devils brought up three junior varsity players and all three contributed. Dylan Morris, Ryan Blaver and Adam Diament combined to score 14 points, with Morris scoring eight points.


SMITH VALLEY 98, GABBS 34


Smith Valley had four players in double figures as it improved to 3-0 in the Northern 1A Division. Kevin Savidge scored 22 points, Travis Hansen scored 18 points, Adam Hutchison had 17 points and Travis Edney had 13 points.


Smith Valley's girls also improved to 3-0 in league play with a 40-11 win over Gabbs.
