Alli takes care of skin

Alli Squelch loves teaching people about skin care.

"The skin is the largest organ of the body," said the owner of Advanced Skin Care by Alli, which opened earlier this summer in Carson City.

"Education is a big thing, for me. A lot of people don't know how to take care of their skin.

"It's my passion. I get so excited about it. I love helping people take care of their skin."

Squelch trained as a medical technician and handled skin care in a local doctor's office for a number of years, including microdermabrasion.

She has continuing education from the Dermal Institute in Pleasanton, Calif., and is a licensed aesthetician.

When she decided to open her own business, Squelch thought she would continue doing microdermabrasion. But while researching various skin treatments, she stumbled upon information on the Futur-Tec skin regeneration system.

"It works on the same theory as microdermabrasion, but kicks it up a notch. You don't get the irritation but you get a lot more benefit."

"It's a skin regeneration system that uses micro currents, very low level laser -- but not medical laser -- ultrasound and vacuum," she said.

"Microdermabrasion is really good for exfoliation, but the crystals leave a mess. This is clean."

Only six Futur-Tech systems are currently in the United States, she said, and Advanced Skin Care has the only one in Nevada.

"The biggest thing for me is to keep your skin healthy. (Futur-Tech) really helps discoloration. I can tell the difference in fine lines. It hydrates. The ultrasound current forces whatever I put on the skin deep into the tissue.

"Nevada is a harsh environment. It's a constant battle to keep the skin hydrated."

For some, the Futur-Tec system is not recommended, particularly those with a history of seizure or stroke, she said. Part of Squelch's procedure is to take a thorough medical history to determine whether it's appropriate or not.

For those clients and others who want something different, Squelch also performs European facials, cellulite treatments, and waxing with Nufree wax, "that can't hurt the skin. It's used at 98 degrees. It's very safe," she said.

In addition, Squelch uses and sells Dermalogica skin care products.
