Last chance for market produce

Carson City residents have one more chance Wednesday to delve into fresh fall produce.

This year's farmers market wraps up Wednesday at the Pony Express Pavilion.

About 3,000 people a week have ventured to Mills Park for the market, a weekly event since June featuring farmers and their homegrown crops.

"This has been a really successful season," said market manager Shirley Adshade-Sponsler. "We had a better crowd then ever. For a lot of farmers it was their best year at the market."

Around 35 vendors fill the pavilion weekly offering everything from bread and peaches to potpourri and corn. This time of year, however, is best for produce like tomatoes, peppers, corn and fruits such as melons and apples, Adshade-Sponsler said. Craft vendors also are present at the market.

The market will close at 7 p.m. this week.

The market will return to the pavilion next June. However, several area farmers markets remain open through October.
