A one-car accident resulted in the death of 79-year-old George William Wells of Placerville, Calif., at 9:20 p.m. Thursday.
He was pronounced dead at the scene after his 2000 Nissan sedan, traveling west on U.S. 50 about six miles east of Austin, drifted off the north edge of the road. Wells overcorrected to the left and the vehicle crossed both travel lanes, rolled, and caught on fire.
Wells was wearing his seat belt and was not ejected. It is not known if alcohol was involved in the accident, but a blood alcohol test is being performed. The crash is still under investigation.
