Regarding Sunday's story on the West Indies.... I also have fond memories of eating Chinese food there with my parents in the '40s.
However, I don't think the location was in Washoe Valley. I recall the West Indies location as near Meadowood Mall - east of S. Virginia St., just a short distance south of present-day McCarran Boulevard. (which I think was then "Frey Lane." ) I believe a dude ranch, the Biltmore, was also neaby.
It would be interesting to know the actual location and dates of operation. I seem to recall the thatched building still being there into the '60s. Gosh, it's hard to reminisce when one can't remember anything!
