Obituary: Wayne Alan Jeffers

A memorial service for Wayne Alan Jeffers, 59, a resident of Gardnerville, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, in the Valley Christian Fellowship, 974 Tillman Lane.

Mr. Jeffers died Jan. 1, 2000.

He was born April 16, 1940, in Eureka, Nev., to Everett Predmore and Venla Bay Jeffers.

He was raised and educated in Hawthorne where he lived and worked at the Naval Ammunitions Depot until 1979 when he was transferred to Layton, Utah. There he continued until his retirement in 1992. He then moved to Gardnerville.

He was best known for his lifelong commitment to public programs associated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, where he was currently serving as Grand Master and Grand Patriarch of the state of Nevada. He was highly involved with the Virginia City Lodge Restoration Program, the Cemetery Preservation Program, a charitable Lodge Food Bank Program, and the Lodge Foreign Student Exchange and Scholarship programs. He also gave years of service to the youth athletic programs while living in Hawthorne.

He is survived by his wife, Anita C. Jeffers; sons, Paul A. Jeffers, of Greenburg, Penn., Jason E. Jeffers of Silver City, and Arron L. Moon, of Carson Valley; daughters, Debra J. Rasmussen of Carson City, Heather L. Moon of Topaz, and Colleen S. Moon of Gardnerville; his mother, Venla Bay Jeffers of Eureka; father, Everett of Mapleton, Utah; family, Carol Bay Collier of Pasadena, Texas, Darrol L. Jeffers of Anaheim, Calif., Arden E. Jeffers of West Valley City, Utah, and Wellington (Dee) Jeffers of Gardnerville, Shelby Nye of Burbank, Wash., Anita Jump of Sacramento, Calif., Warren and Gina Jeffers, of Carson City; eight grandchildren and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Wellington D. Jeffers Sr. of Gardnerville.

A reception will follow the memorial service at Carson Valley Untied Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.
