Obituary: Irwin Arnold Janssen

A funeral service for Irwin Arnold Janssen, 68, a Minden resident for the past eight years, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville with Pastor Pete Nelson officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:30-7:30 Wednesday at FitzHenry's Funeral Home, Gardnerville.

Mr. Janssen died Jan. 31, 2000, at his residence. He was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Worthington, Minn., to Albert and Lena Davids Janssen.

He graduated from Fullerton High School and Fullerton Junior College in Fullerton.

He married Barbara Marlatt Nov. 10, 1955, in Pasadena, Calif.

Before moving to Minden, he lived in Whittier, Calif.

Mr. Janssen was head construction superintendent for Los Angeles County Flood Control for 30 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, carpentry and woodcraft skills. He was an excellent cook and barbecued for family occasions and holidays.

He was a Methodist and he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Arlene Bingham.

Among his survivors are his wife, Barbara, of Minden; son, Steven A., of Hollywood, Calif.; daughters, Lori D. Pedroza of Gardnerville, Teri L. Foreman, of Riverside, Calif. and Karen M. Lambert, of Whittier; brothers, Phil, of Kingman, Ariz., Rodney, of Covina, Calif., Denton, of Brea, Calif., Wendell, of Fountain Valley, Calif., Larry, of Placerville, Calif. and Dale, of Libby, Mont.; sister, Lorene Mowell, of Morro Bay, Calif.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Interment will be at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home, Gardnerville, is in charge of arrangements.
