Nevada hosts championships

A high-caliber field of athletes will assemble today for the conclusion of the University of Nevada-hosted Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships in Reno.


The meet began Friday at the Reno Livestock Events Center and resumes this morning with the field events at 10 a.m. at the Reno Livestock Events Center.


The list of teams entered includes Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah State, Long Beach State, Cal Poly and Nevada (currently ranked No. 25 in the nation).


One of the Wolf Pack's featured athletes today will be Alissa Anderson, a high jumper from Carson City who has cleared 5 feet 9 inches to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships. The senior enters today's event with the third best height.


Nevada's Jenni Ashcroft has earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships with a season best of 12-8 that also ranks No. 12 in the nation.


Another standout for the Wolf Pack this season has been sophomore Erin Kelly, who has improved her school triple jump record to 40-8.
