Letter: Telethon to help care for newborns

It is the time of year for the annual Children's Miracle Network Telethon again. This year the telethon will be held on June 3 and 4 at Washoe Medical Center. It will be televised on KOLO News Channel 8 live from Washoe Medical Center. It will also be broadcast on KBUL Radio FM 98.1 from Washoe Medical Center.

This is a fun event. All the money raised will go directly to Washoe Medical Center Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

I was born three months premature in July of 1984 and was rushed to Washoe Medical Center where I spent the first four months of my life. The staff at the hospital were incredible and they saved my life. I still go there to visit, and they are always glad to see me.

They have upgraded their equipment and are able to help save lives and make sick children well. Because of the donations from the CMN Telethon, they are able to buy more new equipment each year.

Most of us go through life thinking we will never need these services, but when we do need these services, we realize how important these hospitals are.

Every year during the Christmas holiday, my family and I make and sell chocolate candy. All the money earned goes directly to the hospital. We work very hard making and selling this candy. Every year we are able to give more money. I will be at the telethon to give a donation again this year.

I would like to give a special thank you to the transportation department of the Carson City School District where my Grandpa Floyd works. These people are great, always buying a lot of candy. Thank you so much.

And to the people at Wal-mart where my Grandma works, you are great also and a big thank you to you. The Movers and Doers of Carson City Recreation helped out a lot this year also with their purchases. Thank you kindly. A big special thank you goes to the South Carson Albertsons Store. Thank you so much for your donation of supplies. You really helped us in a big way. You made our donation bigger.

To all the people who purchased our candy, we would like to say "Thank you so much." With your donations, we can make miracles happen.

Thank you and God bless you all.
