This letter is in regard to an article in the Nevada Day official program titled "Kit Carson was a scout, guide, soldier." He was also a murderer leading the slaughter of Navahos in their tribal land in Canyon de Chelly, burning their food supplies, starving women, children and supported the bounty on sheep, horse, mule and Navahos.
Carson City is named for Carson River which was named for Kit Carson. Nevada Day, Admission Day, is celebrated for Nevada entering the Union as the 36th state. We do not celebrate Nevada Day in honor of Kit Carson. I suggest that the author of that ridiculous and inaccurate article do more research before he tries to give new meaning to history.
