Kiwanis Club collecting used cartridges as fund-raiser

MINDEN - Nick Barainca, president of the Gardnerville-Carson Valley Kiwanis Club, has set up a committee to collect used computer printer cartridges.

This service will benefit the community in two ways. It will keep these cartridges out of the land fills and generate money for the service club's youth and senior projects.

"Kiwanis is dedicated to developing initiative and leadership in our young people through their local High School Key Club, scholarships and supporting the activities of the 4-H and Scouts," said spokesperson Ray Gumm.

The used cartridges that can be recycled are empty inkjet, laser, copier and fax cartridges - all sizes, all brands. Businesses, county and state departments, schools and individuals are being asked to support the project. Kiwanis will have collection points set up around the community and pick up the cartridges on a regular basis.

The main dropoff point will be at Scolari's Market. Call 265-5141 for additional pickup and dropoff site information.
