Henderson JP named to U.S. District Court

WASHINGTON - Henderson Justice of the Peace Kent Dawson has been nominated for the U.S. District Court.

Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., nominated Dawson for the post, saying he is experienced as both an attorney and a judge with a long history of community involvement in Henderson.

Dawson took office as a Henderson JP in 1997.

Reid also nominated Johnnie Rawlinson to move from the district court to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and put Roger Hunt's name in to move up from magistrate to U.S. District Judge in southern Nevada.

Finally, he has recommended Linda Riegle as U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge in Nevada.

Reid makes the recommendations for federal judicial positions in Nevada because he is the senior Democratic senator from Nevada. Final selections are made by President Clinton and then confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

The appointments to all federal judgeships are for life.
