Fishing report for week of 12/01

BLUE LAKES (UPPER AND LOWER):


Upper Blue Lake: No report.


Lower Blue Lake: No report.


BOCA RESERVOIR: No report.


CAPLES LAKE: No report.


DAVIS LAKE: Best results were with Power Bait or nightcrawlers for shore fishermen, with oilve or cinnamon Woolly Bugger flies for fly fishermen and with Power Bait or worms with marshmallows for anchored boats.


EAGLE LAKE: Was rated good with lots of fish caught by trollers. They were fishing 5-10 feet deep with nightcrawlers and frog-colored Needlefish lures. Bank anglers were were scoring with nightcrawlers at a depth of 5-10 feet near the north end of the lake.


FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR: Lots of limits of rainbows. Nothing big. In the 12-16 inch class. Best action was for bank fishermen with worms.


INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR: Some limited activity. Mostly in the early morning hours or in the late afternoon.


PYRAMID LAKE: No report.


RED LAKE: No report.


SACRAMENTO RIVER: Salmon fishing has been good. Adult salmon are averaging 20-40 pounds. Kwikfish lures in a variety of colors have been the most efective. Using roe in the deep holes was also effective.


SILVER LAKE: No report.


STAMPEDE RESERVOIR: No report.


LAKE TAHOE - North Shore: Easy limits of average sized Mackinaw trout, up to 6 pounds is the rule. Fishing in 250-450 feet of water, very early in the morning, in front of Kings Beach.


On Sunday, Pam Graber of Carson City and her sister Pat of Portland, Ore. fished with Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters on his sport fishing boat, The Big Mack II. They caught, tagged and released a total of 11 Mackinaw and one rainbow trout. The biggest fish was 23 inches. They were trolling with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and pearl-colored Apex lures. One of the Mackinaw trout they caught had been previously tagged and released by an angler on The Big Mack II.


LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: Mike Nielsen of the Tahoe Topliners reported that most of the fish being caught were average-sized Mackinaw trout. The Macks were being taken on 3-ounce, white or silver, Crippled Herring jigs. The best results were at a depth of 160-220 feet in front of the golf course or in front of the casinos.


WALKER LAKE: The Nov. 27 fishing derby had more than 200 entries. Bud Higgins of Douglas County took home the first place prize of $1,500 for the heaviest stringer of fish. His five cutthroat trout checked in with a total of 29 pounds, 10 ounces. His two biggest fish weighed 7-pounds, 12-ounces and 7-pounds, 5-ounces.


WILDHORSE RESERVOIR: Dennis Dunn reported that the fishing has been excellent. Mostly rainbows with an occasional German brown. Last Sunday, a 4.5 pound German brown trout was caught on a black-colored Mepps lure.
