Fishing report for week of 10/27

Special note: all applicable open fishing waters in Inyo and Mono Counties in California will close to 1999 fishing on Sunday.


This will be the last report for those waters.


ALPINE LAKE: No report.


BLUE LAKES (UPPER AND LOWER):


Upper Blue Lake: A boater trolling on Monday with a Flatfish lure and a piece of worm limited out on rainbows, up to 2 pounds.


Lower Blue Lake: No report.


BOCA RESERVOIR: No report.


BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR: Closes Sunday.


CAPLES LAKE: A 5-pound German brown was caught near the boat dock with a black/silver Rapala lure. Another angler in that same area caught a 3-pound Mackinaw trout on a Rapala lure.


The lake level is low and the boat ramp can only accomodate smaller sized fishing boats.


CARSON-ICEBERG WILDERNESS AREA: No report.


CARSON RIVERS (EAST AND WEST) IN CALIF:


East Carson River: Fly fishermen in the trophy section reported good action in the early morning or late evening hours. They were catching rainbows up to 3 pounds on assorted dry flies.


West Carson River: Was quiet with very few anglers.


CONVICT LAKE AND CONVICT CREEK:


Convict Lake: Closes Sunday. Some German browns in the 2-4 pound class on nightcrawlers or Power Bait.


Convict Creek: Closes Sunday. Was best for small spinners or red slamon eggs.


CRATER LAKE: No report.


CROWLEY LAKE: Closes Sunday. Best action was with Doc's Twin Lakes Special near Hilton and Mcgee Bays.


DAVIS LAKE: No report.


DESOLATION WILDERNESS AREA: No report.


EAGLE LAKE: No report.


EMIGRANT LAKE: No report.


FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR: No report.


FROG LAKE: No report.


GREEN CREEK-DYNAMO POND: Closes Sunday.


HEENAN LAKE: Closes Sunday.


HOBART RESERVOIR: Closed.


HOOVER WILDERNESS AREA: Closes Sunday.


INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR: Was improving slightly. Best action was by the boat ramp or by the dam. Using inflated worms, floated up off the bottom.


JUNE LAKE LOOP (GRANT-GULL-JUNE-SILVER LAKES-RUSH CREEK): Close Sunday.


June Lake: Produced some action for boaters trolling at a slower than normal speed. They were using Thomas Buoyant lures.


No report for Grant, Gull and Silver Lakes.


KINNEY RESERVOIR: No report.


KIRMAN (CARMEN) LAKE: Closes Sunday.


LOBDELL LAKE: Closes Sunday.


LUNDY LAKE: Closes Sunday.


MAMMOTH LAKES AREA: Closes Sunday.


MARKLEEVILLE CREEK: No report.


MOKELUMNE WILDERNESS AREA: No report.


NORTH POND: Closed.


OWENS RIVER: No report.


PLEASANT VALLEY CREEK: No report.


POORE-SECRET-ROOSEVELT-LANE LAKES: Close Sunday.


PYRAMID LAKE: No report.


RAYMOND LAKE: No report.


RED LAKE: Reported good fishing for brook trout by the dam. Shore fishermen were using rainbow Power Bait. Lake level is low.


SACRAMENTO RIVER: No report.


SCOTT LAKE: No report.


SILVER LAKE: No report.


SILVER CREEK: No report.


SOUTH-NORTH-INTAKE 2-BISHOP CREEK (WEST OF BISHOP): Close Sunday.


STAMPEDE RESERVOIR: No report.


LAKE TAHOE - North Shore: Limits of Mackinaw trout, up to 26 inches. Also an occasional rainbow. Fishing in 250-450 feet of water, very early in the morning, in front of Kings Beach. Trolling with Herring Dodger flasher blades with pearl-colored Apex lures, live minnows or three-inch, blue-colored, rubber minnows.


TAMARACK-SUNSET LAKES: No report.


TOPAZ LAKE: Closed.


UPPER TWIN LAKE-LOWER TWIN LAKE-ROBINSON CREEK: Close Sunday.


VIRGINIA LAKES AND VIRGINIA CREEK: Close Sunday.


WALKER LAKE: Thursday, fishing was slow. Norm Budden, Don Hettrick, Bob "Slick" McCulloch and Don Quilici of Carson City trolled from a pontoon boat. They caught five cutthroat with the largest being 5.1 pounds. The only action was with silver colored lures in the Sand Point area.


Sunday, fishing was somewhat better. Bud Higgins of Douglas County and Don Quilici of Carson City caught and released a total of 12 cutthroat. They were using silver Flatfish flures and were trolling 40-50 feet deep in the Sand Point area.


WALKER RIVERS IN CALIF. (EAST-WEST-LITTLE): Close Sunday.


WILDHORSE RESERVOIR: Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort reported: "The sun has been out, the weather cool (10 degrees), the fishing good and we need some snow. That way I can go deer hunting."


The fishing has been steady for mostly rainbows (up to 22 inches) with a few German browns. Successful anglers have been using nightcrawlers with marshmallows or perched colored Rapala lures.


WINNEMUCCA LAKE: No report.


WOODS LAKE: No report.


YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK: Closes Sunday.
