The Sierra District of the California State Park System is offering a guided hike on Sunday to the top of Freel Peak.
That 10,881 foot peak is one of the highest points on the Tahoe Rim Trail in the Tahoe Basin. The views from there are classified as spectacular.
The Sunday hike is rated as "difficult and aerobic" with a duration of about 5-6 hours.
Hikers are requested to meet at 9:30 a.m. at the beginning of Horse Meadows Road. That road is located on the east side of the highway, halfway between Luther Pass on S.R. 89 and Pickett's Junction on S.R. 88. Look for a white-colored, Calif. State Parks pickup.
Bring lunch, camera, sunscreen, warm layered clothing for variable weather conditions, good hiking boots and plenty of water.
Pets are not allowed.
There is no charge for the hike.
