Brief: man found guilty of domestic battery

A Carson City man was found guilty in justice court Wednesday of misdemeanor domestic battery, driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

A felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon was dropped.

William Vowinkel, 36, was arrested in August on a total of eight charges, five of which were dropped, said Deputy District Attorney Matt Jensen.

At the time of his arrest, deputies believed Vowinkel struck his wife with his car while she was riding a bicycle.

He pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, but unsuccessfully contested the domestic battery charge.

Vowinkel will spend 30 days in jail, pay a $640 fine and perform 100 hours of community service. He was also ordered to counseling for domestic violence and substance abuse.
