Man charged with kidnapping after domestic fight

A man suspected of hitting and kicking a women, holding her against her will and throwing her out of his car is under arrest on a felony kidnapping charge.

Rene Arthur Almanza, a 37-year-old unemployed civil engineer, was booked early Tuesday morning for the alleged altercation the night before. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

According to reports, the victim told police Almanza hit her in the face with a beer can and kicked her in the chest at a home in the 2400 block of Ash Canyon. He then reportedly drove her through Carson City, not allowing her to get out of his car by keeping the automatic door locks in the locked position. He then reportedly kicked her out on the street where a passerby called police.

The victim told police Almanza threatened "to drive her to California and kill her in the desert."

When deputies contacted Almanza at a home in the 500 block of East Long Street to arrest him on the domestic battery and kidnapping charges, it was also discovered that he was an felon who had failed to register, reports indicate. He was booked on the additional charges.

After his first appearance Wednesday morning in justice court, Almanza was scheduled for a Oct. 2 evidentiary hearing in Judge Robey Willis's courtroom. He will determine if the evidence warrants the charges.
