DAYTON - Bobby Elliott of Plano, Texas fired a 4-under-par 68 Wednesday for a 10-under 134 to take the lead after two rounds of Stage 1 PGA TOUR Qualifying event at Dayton Valley Country Club. Stephen Allan of Brighton Victoria, Australia also carded a 68 and is in second place at 136.

Brett Wayment of Logan, Utah shot a 2-under par 70 and holds the third spot at 137. Former University of Nevada Las Vegas golfer Jeremy Anderson of Las Vegas is in fourth place after shooting a second round 70.

Cool temperatures and gusty winds helped push scores higher than Tuesday's first round, which was played in ideal weather conditions onthe 7,218 yard par-72 Arnold Palmer designed course.

Only 24 players were able to shoot par or better in the second round compared to 39 on

Tuesday.

Mike Troyer of Boulder, Colo. also carded a second round 68 to be the third player to equal the low round of the day. Troyer leaped ahead of a number of players to get back into contention for a qualifying spot after shooting a first round 77.

"The last nine holes got pretty tough," Allan said. "With the wind and slick greens the putting and chipping were especially difficult."

This is the second attempt at the PGA TOUR Q-School for the 27-year-old Aussie, who ranks 59th on the European PGA Tour money list this year. He has a simple game plan for the final two rounds.

"I'm just going to keep trying to do the same things I've been doing and hope it is good enough," he said. "I'm going to try to drive the ball better also, as I have gotten away with a few loose ones in the first two rounds."

Former University of Nevada golfer Justin Peters of Coral Springs, Fla. shot a 76 and is at 1-over-par 145. Peters' Wolf Pack teammate James Watt from Lodi, Cal. carded a second round 74 and is at 146. Bob Leist, Jr., assistant professional at Sierra Sage Golf Course in Reno, shot a 79 for a 154 total.

Twenty-three players will advance from Dayton to Stage 2 qualifying at six sites across the country and there will be four alternates. The tournament runs through Friday.
