Bighorn sheep poacher wanted

The Nevada Division of Wildlife is looking for help in solving a California bighorn sheep poaching that occurred some time last week. That poaching incident took place in the area just south of Pyramid Lake near the Big Canyon Ranch.

The bighorn sheep was discovered on Aug. 19, wounded by the poacher(s) through the jaw by a bullet. The bullet shattered the lower jaw which prevented the 1 1/2 year old ram from eating or drinking.

"The animal died a slow and painful death, unable to drink", said Operation Game Thief Coordinator Rob Buonamici, "Its body was found next to a spring."

Buonamici says that NDOW needs the general public's help in solving this case.

The Operation Game Thief Citizen's Board has authorized a $1,000 reward for help in uncovering facts pertaining to the case.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Operation Fame Thief Hotline at (800) 992-3030. You can remain anonymous and will receive a reward upon conviction of the poacher.

For information, call Buonamici at 688-1500.
