American Battle Monument Commission wins $1 million grant

The American Battle Monument Commission recently announced a $1 million gift from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation to help build the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. The gift from the Las Vegas based philanthropic organization was made on behalf of its' benefactor and WWII veteran, Donald W. Reynolds.

Reynolds, who during his lifetime amassed one of the largest, privately held media companies passed away in 1993 leaving the majority of his estate to the private foundation he started in 1954. Today the Foundation is one of the nations' largest charitable trusts.

The American Battle Monuments Commission will break ground on the memorial this Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The memorial will be located on the National Mall, between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. To date, the national fundraising campaign has raised more than $97 million of the $100 million needed to design, build and maintain the memorial.
