Obituary: Takeo Joseph Nishikida

A funeral for Takeo Joseph Nishikida, 81, a Gardnerville resident for the past 53 years, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville with the Rev. Pete Nelson officiating.

Mr. Nishikida died Aug. 17, 2001, at his residence. He was born April 9, 1920, in Stockton, Calif., to Jisaburo Nishikida and Misao Fujiyama. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Starkel, and his parents.

Prior to living in Gardnerville, he resided in Stockton. He was a happy man who made everyone laugh. A caring and generous person, he loved living in Nevada.

Mr. Nishikida served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1948. He did basic training in Ft. Blanding, Fla., and served in Europe in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.

He and his wife owned and operated the Gardnerville Laundry. He also worked for Bentley Nevada for 23 years.

Among his survivors are his sons David Nishikida of Gardnerville and Joe Nishikida of Sparks, and sisters Masaye Kato of Los Angeles and Toki Wada of San Francisco.

Burial will be after the service at Mottsville Cemetery on Old Foothill Road.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary in Minden is in charge of arrangements.
