Theilemann strong in Hawaii

Tara Theilemann of the Carson Tigersharks continued her outstanding effort on Thursday at the Western Zone Swimming Championships in Hawaii.


Theilemann placed sixth in the 200-meter freestyle in the 15-16-year-old division. Theilemann qualified seventh for the final, finishing in two minutes, 10.57 seconds, which was faster than her seeded time of 2:11.99. She then lowered her time to 2:10.44 to finish sixth in the finals.


Theilemann also helped this region's B team to a fifth place finish in the 200 free relay. Theilemann's team finished in 1:53.86.


Earlier in the week, Theilemann placed sixth in the 200 backstroke. Theilemann qualified in the preliminaries with a time of 2:28.55, which was more than three seconds faster than her seeded time of 2:31.84. Theilemann placed sixth in the finals in 2:29.77.


Theilemann also placed 19th in the 50 free in 28.78, which was faster than her seeded time of 28.89.


Theilemann will be among several Tigershark swimmers who will compete in the Far Western Regional Championships to be held Aug. 15-19 in Concord, Calif. She will compete in the 100, 400 and 800 freestyles and the 100 and 200 backstrokes.


Ryan Theilemann, 17, will compete in the 100 and 400 freestyles, the 200 back and the 200 breaststroke. Andrew Willett, 12, will compete in the 100, 200 and 400 freestyles, the 50 and 100 backstrokes and the 200 individual medley.


Abby Niehoff, 10, will compete in the 50, 100, 200 and 400 freestyles, the 50 and 100 backstrokes, the 50 butterfly and the 50 breaststroke. Rebekah Niehoff, 12, will compete in the 400 free.


In addition, Ryan Hudson, 18, will compete in the 800 and 1,500 freestyles.
