Performance set for BAC's 'Carnival of the Animals'

The Brewery Arts Center's Summer Theater Youth Camp "Carnival of the Animals" is in full swing.

The camp provides an opportunity for children to experience the magical world of live theater by learning skills in acting, musical theater, mime, movement and mask making.

Children will get a chance to showcase their skills for family and friends at 6 p.m. Thursday.

A second performance with the Carson City Symphony Orchestra on the Community Center stage is set for Feb. 24.

The symphony will be performing Camille Saint-Saens' "Carnival of the Animals."

The symphony is a delightful portrait of members of the animal kingdom and has endured as one of the most widely known and frequently performed compositions. It is well regarded for its clever use of various instruments that evoke animals from the cuckoo to the kangaroo.

Campers are designing their own creative animal masks and will provide the movement of the animals during the symphony performance. Members of the Carson City symphony conducted a special workshop with the young people to learn about the instruments of the orchestra helping to show students how to identify which animal was being portrayed by the music and how the instruments were being used to represent each animal.
